Ivolga EMUs, manufactured by TVZ (part of Transmashholding) for the Russian-gauge market, feature an HVAC system with an air-sanitising system.
The HVAC system is equipped with UV lamps so that the passing air is treated with UV radiation before it is returned to the passenger area. It has been found that UVC light in particular can destroy genetic material, e.g. in viruses. It has therefore been used as a method of sterilisation though it is not known how UVC affects this coronavirus, though it has been used effectively against other coronaviruses like Sars.
