Bank station upgrade: bespoke solution for pile interceptions (GroundEngPlus)

At the 2022 GE Basements and Underground Structures conference, Transport for London (TfL) senior engineer for tunnels Paul Dryden discussed a tricky pile intercept on the Bank Station capacity project. At the conference in October 2022, TfL’s Paul Dryden gave a presentation on a “novel and unprecedented” load transfer solution that was applied to four piles underneath a 1970s office building that were in the path of a new tunnel, which was part of the Bank Station Capacity Upgrade.

He talked about assessing the need for pile interceptions, how TfL worked with project stakeholders, and how the bespoke solution was designed and delivered.
