  1. It would be great to see the actual numbers so we can work out how much of the increase is displaced road trips and how much is new journeys that wouldn’t have happened.
    A stunning success for the German economy under any balance.

  2. Fascinating figures.

    My take (assuming I’m interpreting the graph correctly) is that

    1) “Cutting fares will get people out of cars!”…may not be as true as some people think (noting that this was only a short trial period so not much chance for long-formed travel habits to change.

    2) It does seem to have stimulated journeys that otherwise wouldn’t have happened at all. Good thing for social access to leisure areas and attractions, but a fine balancing act between that “travel for travels’ sake”

    Cable cars work best in straight lines, Luton has a couple of sharp turns (with a third planned for T2). The cable is snagging and the car derailed. Construction was a couple of years late and they ‘hope’ to open this year subject to resolving the cable problem.
