The article (Re)designing the city for women brought to mind the concept that if you design the environment or service to address concerns of various groups who have issues (of whatever sort) with the current environment/service, then you get something that works better for everyone, as you have properly thought though the simplicity/ease of access, safety, general attractiveness, maintainability and so on.

    And hence should get better utilisation and something more enduring.
