London Electrical Cab Company,Ltd ran 75 black and yellow electric cabs in London 1897-99,called Bersey Taxi after inventor Walter Charles Bersey who had been designing and patenting evs for years,nicknamed Hummingbird due to the noise they made,the taxis used swappable batteries which were replaced by a hydraulic lifts in 2-3 mins,the cabs failed due to the 2 ton weight causing vibrations that wore out the thin solid tires in 6 months and damaged delicate glass plates leading to breakdowns and the firm losing £6,200 in the 1st yr.New York electric cabs introduced in the 1890s were more successful,according to Brad Kavin in Green TV,EV Summit Online:EV Trucks with SVLG on youtube 2 days age they were still in service in 1907.
