  1. The article on (diesel) car pollution raises a flag, but answers no questions, most unfortunately.
    There is, erm, “vigorous debate” going on in some boroughs on this very subject, with accusations of increased pollution on main roads & much-disputed claims by local councils of reduced pollution, which many people disbelive …..
    We know that London’s air is currently cleaner than it has been since records began, from the clear visible evidence provided by the presence of many pollution-intolerant species of plants & lichens appearing & flourishing where they were previously unknown, as well as sampling data.
    Unfortunately, that does not actually give us an answer as to what the real figures actually are.
    The subject is further complicated by what proportion of the particuate pollution comes from the tyre/road surface interaction – it is suggested that this could be as high as 50%
    The one thing that is certain is that we need more & more accurate & verifyable information, that people will believe – because, most unhappily, many local councils are no longer trusted.
