  1. The Nathan Darroch article is uterly fascinating & is high;y recommended.
    He, as a professional is going on about the things that often excite both my historical & present interests, which should (IHMO) be much better understood by many people.
    Politicians & city “planners” especially!

  2. Cincinnati’s Union Terminal is a genuinely astonishing building. It was designed and constructed towards the end of what one historian called the “megalomaniac period” of station design in America. It is especially notable as it is a paean to Art Deco, arguably the biggest and best of that period. Most of the other great stations or terminals were built somewhat earlier in the Beaux Arts form (Grand Central) or still earlier in neo Romanesque etc such as St Louis. I regret I have never seen it in the flesh but I do possess lovely a book on the station. It was only completed in 1933 and had a relatively short life before decline occurred.
