  1. It’s suprisingly difficult to find the “award-winning house”, but apparently it’s in Dartford St SE17 3** … [ Visible HERE for info. ] Incidentally it appears to be under the old LCDR Camberwell station.
I note that all the living accomodation is outside the arch & that it is apparently freehold – suprising given the ongoing row about arch rents in places like London Fields.

  2. CORRECTION
I mistyped – I should have said: “Walworth Road” station of course – silly me.

  3. Interesting to see the Canadian articles, Toronto in particular. But they are only talking, in fairly general ways, about reducing car use whereas in London we are now talking about reducing car ownership. London already has very low household car ownership compared to income (it’s one of the reasons why the DfT traffic models are hopeless for London) but the push is on to get this even further down both to enable the roads to give even a half way decent level of service and to provide opportunities for things such as pocket parks in residential streets.

  4. I can’t see living in a railway arch catching on. Among the standard conditions in arch leases (which I assume have to continue, despite the recent long leasehold sale of most in England and Wales) is one allowing the railway access to examine and maintain the structure. This may require removal of all the internal lining.
