Events and Announcements

Before we return to the world of Jubilee Line Upgrades and Rolling Stock tenders (as well as some of the other welcome suggestions in the comments on the last post), there are a couple of upcoming dates that may be worth noting.

Firstly, next week will see the ever-ebulent Robert Hulse, Director of The Brunel Museum, give a talk on the Thames Tunnel at the London Transport Museum.

As the first tunnel successfully dug under a navigable river, the Tunnel has had an understandably impressive history and Hulse’s talk will take a brief look at everything from its notoriously ticky (and expensive) construction, through its time as a pedestrian tunnel, right up to modern times and its role as part of the East London Line. The talk is on Tuesday the 1st February, and tickets can be obtained from the London Transport Museum.

Elsewhere, those whose tastes tend towards Rolling Stock and the national network may be interested to know that C2C have announced the date and time of the last Blue Livery service.

This will be a 09:00 – 19:00 charter service from Fenchurch Street on the 5th March that will travel a significant chunk of the C2C network, including various depots, sidings and little-used routes. This includes the Bow Junction gas factory, a depot run past Ilford, East Ham depot and platform 2 at Leigh on Sea.

More details (including pricing) can be found on the C2C website, and it appears that C2C are also running a draw for those who buy tickets that’ll see one person make the journey from the cab.
